About

Loman McNamara is a San Francisco Bay Area architecture firm that provides services for design through construction. We think of architecture not just as building space, but as interconnecting systems and environments. Landscape and context are inseparable from structure. Our goal is to create thoughtful architecture that connects people and place in artful ways. We skillfully tailor a client’s needs and budget with building code, constructability, and aesthetics to provide a unique solution. We work in drawings, physical models, computer models, and renderings. Our design process is iterative. We explore multiple avenues, searching for the appropriate solution. The answer is never predetermined and is often something that had not been imagined. We zoom in and out, working at both small and large scales to achieve a cohesive design. The effort is collaborative. We work closely with clients, developers, contractors, consultants, and engineers, each member playing a key role in enriching the final product. Loman McNamara is ever mindful of sustainable building practices, and it is a lens through which we view all our projects. We value timeliness and teamwork and are always open to discussing design ideas over a drink or meal.

Principals

Jill Loman

For 20+ years, Jill has been designing places that support people with a variety of needs and dreams. From museums and airports, to residential projects and interior renovations, Jill has extensive experience that she has enjoyed sharing with clients in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 11 years.

Prior to starting her own practice in Berkeley, Jill designed and built thoughtful and articulate homes and other commercial spaces at the firm, Peter Engel, Architect.
Before moving to Berkeley, CA, Jill worked with renowned architect, Renzo Piano, at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop for four years in Paris, France.

The combination of these experiences have fostered a deep appreciation for teamwork and exploration of important design elements such as light, air, context, and clarity. She has had the pleasure to work on monumental projects such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) with RPBW, Student Housing at UCLA with HHPA and the San Jose International Airport (SJO) at Gensler.

She received her Masters in Architecture and Bachelors dual degree in Urban Studies and Design of the Environment from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a licensed architect in the state of California.
