Of the Earth.
This family compound in Healdsburg serves as a gathering place for multiple siblings and their families. A cluster of low slung buildings is organized around a central courtyard and pool. In an area prone to wildfires, we selected durable, low-maintenance, fire-resistant materials such as rammed earth and shou sugi ban wood siding. Roof overhangs, skylights, glazing, and thermal massing are strategically deployed to minimize use of HVAC, allow for strong indoor/outdoor living connections, and provide copious amounts of light and air.
